I have heard this quoted so many times by friends and family who share in the thought that the original Green Lantern was a man of color. After re quoting this information in a conversation with a co-worker and quickly being corrected I decided to do my own research and find out truly if the strong green character was strongly african.
Where did the rumor start?
Common IS The Green Lantern In Canned ‘Justice League of America’
The Justice League of America movie may be no more, at least until the ongoing writers strike ends, and Warner Brothers decides that the film wouldn’t just crash and burn, but that hasn’t stopped rapper Common publicly announcing he was set to play The Green Lantern in the super hero flick.
The rumors over who was going to play The Green Lantern had been floating around for months, and Common’s name did keep cropping up as a possible contender, but this is the first time it has been publicly stated he was a definite for the role.
The music artist and actor told the MTV Movie Blog his feelings on the honor:
“It’s a blessing really, to know that I could potentially be this superhero. Justice League itself is an honour, and The Green Lantern is an incredible character to play. It’s a blessing to be associated with it.”
“Just being a black person, a black man, playing a superhero is an honor in itself.”
Common also told them that the project isn’t dead, and although he refused to discuss plot details, said he “sees it moving forward relatively soon”.
So what’s the truth?
