31st Week of 2021-August Recap
What I finished this week
August Is Here
I always feel like I'm in an episode of The Flintstones when I mow my lawn. It's a lot more work than it looks, and there are so many things that can get in the way-taller grasses, clogged blades on your machine, rocky terrain. But despite this challenge, there is something to be said for the sense of accomplishment that comes with completing the task." August is a great time to get outside and enjoy all nature has to offer before winter sets its icy grip over us!
I take care of my lawn every day, but I just got off work, and it's been pretty hot out. The temperature right now is on the 80s scale, so I decided to spend some time outside tending to our grass- the best way for me to cool down from a long shift at work! It doesn't seem like we'll be getting any rain anytime soon either - all that heat takes its toll on her green color.
I spent my evenings after work tending to the yard this week as well. So far, there are only brown spots here or there; nothing too terrible considering how much sun she gets during these summer months in Illinois!
Urban Gardening Update
As I shop for my groceries, I feel so fulfilled knowing that I can eat fresh vegetables when they are not available in stores during the winter months. The vegetables on display are a big reason why - they're colorful and healthy! In particular, there's this pile of produce that catches my eye: Cauliflower (a spicy-sweet vegetable), kale (superfood!), red cabbage & zucchini (excellent sources of vitamin C), as well as baby tomatoes which provide lycopene. It's always a joy to see garden produce make its way from seed, pot, and soil inside my kitchen.
